I found this article interesting.

"The first two meters of the Earth’s soil holds over three times the amount of carbon as the atmosphere, and can hold even more. . . . Salk believes their solution can achieve as much as a 46% annual reduction in excess CO2 emissions produced by humans."

Don't know if that's realistic, but it's intriguing research.
